Paver Repair & Re-Sanding — Harrison Township, Michigan
Paver Repair & Re-Sanding in Harrison Township
Harrison Township paving carries more than footsteps. Trailers sit on second driveways, plows and shovels work the drives and walks all winter, and the canal lots stay damp at the seawall. We take up rutted, sunken or heaved sections and relay them once the base below is corrected, replace cracked pavers, repair or replace failed edge restraints and finish the joints with polymeric sand. Photos or a visit get you a written estimate within 24 hours.

In Harrison Township
Interlocking pavers carry weight as a team. The sand in each joint passes a load from one paver to its neighbors, which the Concrete Masonry and Hardscapes Association (CMHA) calls interlock, and the compacted base underneath carries it from there. CMHA's construction guide sizes that base by use: at least 4 inches of compacted base under a patio or walk and at least 6 under a driveway, thicker on cold or wet ground.
That difference matters on the inland streets west of Jefferson Ave, where the 1950s to 1970s subdivision lots often have a second driveway that holds a boat trailer. If that pad was built as patio paving, it carries vehicle loads on a base sized for foot traffic. The wheel paths show it first: pavers dipping where the tires sit, joints opening, sand gone. CMHA notes that tires pull sand from joints and that a saturated bedding layer pumps out under traffic.
Water raises the stakes near the shore. On the canal and river lots, from Lakeside to the marina row along S River Rd, the ground sits low, drains slowly, and stays damp by the seawall. Under vehicular paving on slow-draining soil, CMHA recommends drain pipe beneath the base. Adding drainage is construction rather than repair, so where a sunken pad needs it, the estimate says that instead of pricing a reset over the same wet base.
Winter adds the blade. CMHA advises resetting any paver that stands more than 1/8 inch above its neighbors before snow season, because shovels and plows catch the raised edge, and it suggests shoveling diagonally to the pattern. A failed edge restraint lets the outer row tip outward, and a tipped edge paver is exactly the lip a plow finds.
How we work
Wheel Paths, Base, Edge, Sand

We string-line the rutted or sunken area and open it out to pavers that sit level. Under a wheel path we check the base first, dig to sound material and rebuild the low area with compacted base, then lay about an inch of concrete sand as bedding and screed it true. At the edges, a loose or broken restraint is fixed or swapped out, with its spikes driven into compacted base rather than soil and the base carried beyond its outer face. The pavers go back in pattern and are compacted with the paving around them, finishing slightly high to allow for settling, and the joints get polymeric sand.
Driving on It Too Soon, and Other Setbacks
Pulling the truck and trailer back onto fresh joints too early can undo a re-sand. Cure time depends on the sand and the weather; Techniseal's HP NextGel, for example, keeps vehicles off for 48 to 72 hours, and the label on the sand used sets your wait. Edge restraints fail when they are spiked into soil or set on the bedding layer, and CMHA rules out landscape bed edging as a paver restraint and advises against timber, which rots. A cracked paver in a wheel path deserves a look below it as well, since CMHA notes that damage can signal weak support underneath.
When to Book Paver Repair & Re-Sanding in Harrison Township
Base and reset work needs unfrozen ground, and a pad that heaved over the winter is judged after the thaw. Joint work follows the weather: SEK's PolySweep, for one, asks for average air temperatures above 35°F for 48 hours and no rain for 12. CMHA's maintenance guide puts paver checks in spring, while it rains or just after, and again late in the summer or early fall, which leaves time to fix raised edges before plowing starts. Our post on ice melt for pavers covers the rest of winter care.
Questions, answered
Paver Repair & Re-Sanding in Harrison Township: FAQs
Can pavers hold our boat trailer?
On a base built for vehicles, yes. If the pad that holds your trailer was laid on the thinner base CMHA specifies for patios, resetting the pavers puts them back on that same base, and the ruts can return; CMHA notes that major rutting often points to a base too thin for the load. Bringing a pad up to driveway depth is a rebuild, not a repair, and if yours needs one the estimate says so.
Why are the pavers along our drive tipping outward?
That is the pattern CMHA describes for a failed edge restraint: joints widen, and pavers within a foot or two of the edge rotate or settle as the field spreads. We lift the edge row and the pavers next to it, repair or replace the restraint with one made for pavers, anchor it into the base, then compact and re-sand.
How long before we can park on it again?
After a reset and re-sand, the polymeric sand label sets the wait for vehicles, since cure time changes with temperature and humidity. If the pavers were also sealed as part of a restoration, our rule is 48 hours before foot traffic and 72 before vehicles, longer if the label or cold, damp weather calls for it.
Do you work in the condominium communities and on the canal lots?
Yes, anywhere in the township, from Lakeside and Saint Clair Haven to the inland subdivisions, with no travel fee. In a condominium community, check whether your association maintains the paving before booking. Send photos, a wide shot and close-ups of the low spot, or have us come out; either way the written estimate arrives within 24 hours.
