In Wixom
Much of Wixom's single-family housing went up in subdivisions from the 1990s into the 2010s, many of them on former industrial-corridor land with new engineered grading, and nearly every newer subdivision has a homeowners association. On a paver drive, the symptom usually points to the cause.
A low spot that holds a puddle after rain is what the Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association (CMHA) calls a depression. Its maintenance guide traces depressions to a base or subgrade that settled, often from poor compaction, to a saturated base or soil, to bedding sand laid too thick, or to bedding and joint sand that washed out. A groove along the wheel path is rutting: CMHA ties minor ruts to the bedding layer and says major ones often mean a base too thin or not stiff enough for the loads. Joints opening along the outer edge of the drive point to a failing edge restraint instead.
Check before you call. Early-morning and late-afternoon shadows exaggerate how deep a dip looks, so CMHA suggests confirming it with a string line. Cleaning and sealing are a separate job, paver restoration, and the paver repair page lists every repair.
How we work
How a Sunken Drive Section Gets Rebuilt

A string line marks where the dip starts and stops. The pavers inside it and a margin beyond come up, the first with an extractor or two screwdrivers, or broken out with a chisel if the field is locked tight, and each is stacked in order. With the bedding scraped off, the base shows what failed. CMHA's construction guide calls for at least 6 inches of compacted base under a driveway, and more in cold or wet soils. Low base is rebuilt with compacted base material, never made up with bedding sand.
About an inch of fresh concrete sand is screeded as bedding, the pavers return in their original pattern set 1/16 to 1/8 inch above their neighbors, and a plate compactor makes at least two passes that overlap the undisturbed pavers. Cracked pavers are replaced during the reset, with the new ones scattered rather than grouped, since pavers in service look different from fresh spares. Joint sand goes in last.
Sealing Over a Sinking Drive
A tired-looking drive invites a coat of sealer, sometimes with an association deadline behind it. Seal over a sunken or loose section and the problem sits under a fresh coat: one sand and sealer maker's prep bulletin puts repairs ahead of sealing, and CMHA notes that sealers add nothing to a pavement's structural capacity. Our article on whether sealing pavers pays off covers when it does help.
Two other shortcuts backfire: padding the low spot with extra bedding sand, which leaves the base low so the unevenness shows through, and re-sanding while the sprinklers still run. Polymeric sand needs dry pavers going in and no irrigation while it cures, and the sprinkler stains on young Wixom concrete show how far irrigation reaches.
When to Book Paver Repair & Re-Sanding in Wixom
Base work needs unfrozen ground, so a sunken section can be reset any time the frost is out. The joint sand is pickier: dry pavers, about two days above freezing after it goes in, at least 12 dry hours, and every irrigation zone that reaches the paving switched off. Cars wait too. One maker's polymeric sand asks for 48 to 72 hours before vehicles; on your drive, the label of the sand we use sets the wait. If an association notice carries a date, send it along.

Paver Repair & Re-Sanding in Wixom: FAQs
Can you fix just the dip, or does the drive have to come up?
When the trouble is local, just the dip. CMHA's maintenance guide notes that pavers in a low-severity depression can be lifted, the settlement corrected and the same pavers relaid, with no wasted material and no patch. The compactor runs a little past the repair so the section ties in. If the base under the entire drive proves too thin for cars, that goes beyond a repair, and we say so before going further.
Our HOA wants the drive fixed by a date. What does the estimate show?
Each repair as its own line: the area to relevel, any pavers to replace, edge work and re-sanding. It comes in writing within 24 hours of your photos or our visit, in a form you can forward to the board, and a certificate of our liability and workers' compensation coverage can go with it. Our guide to handling an HOA exterior notice covers deadlines.
Can we just re-sand the joints and skip the releveling?
On a flat section with sound pavers, re-sanding alone can be the right job. Over a dip it is not. One sand maker's prep bulletin lists repairs to sunken, heaved or cracked pavers and failed edging before any joint sand goes in, and polymeric sand needs an open joint at least 1½ inches deep, cleaned out, dry and filled with one material. Sand swept over a section that is still settling will not hold it level.
Do you come out to Wixom, and how is repair priced?
Yes. Wixom is about 48 minutes from our Hall Rd shop in Clinton Township, there is no travel fee, and a house off Beck Rd, Wixom Rd or Pontiac Trail is handled the same way as one near Loon Lake or the Novi line. Repairs have no published price, since two dips can have different causes. Send photos or book a visit, and the written estimate follows within 24 hours.
