Properties here are measured in acres rather than lots. Farmsteads, Ranches and Acreage Homes

The oldest houses date to the settlement era around the 1847 Wolcott Mill, and many still stand paired with the barn they were built beside. Painted wood and brick are the materials, and both ask for restraint: a mild solution, rinse-level pressure, hand work at the window trim, and a close look at paint that is already lifting before a number is quoted. The barn wood next to them is grayer and softer still, and it cleans at lower pressure than the house does.

Mid-century ranches run along the county roads, and their walls take both road problems at once. Dust off the gravel settles along those long low elevations, and salt thrown from the plowed pavement of 26 Mile Rd and 29 Mile Rd films the road-facing side through winter. A good share of these ranches wear aluminum that has chalked to a dull powder, which lifts evenly under a pre-treatment and streaks badly without one.

The acreage homes of recent decades sit farthest from the road, brick and vinyl at the front with metal-sided pole barns and equipment sheds behind. These are the parcels where one visit covers several structures: house, barn gable ends, the walk, the apron where the drive meets concrete. There is essentially no association calendar out here to tell anyone when to wash, so the schedule comes from the surfaces themselves.
