The Restoration, Step by Step
We begin with a look at the base: where water stands, which sections have dropped, and whether the edge restraint has let go. The cleaning runs first, with the surface cleaner over the field and a wand at the edges and steps, and efflorescence gets an acid-based treatment where it shows. The pavers then dry completely, usually a day, before polymeric sand is swept in, compacted and misted to set. Any small settled area is lifted and re-bedded before sanding. How Pavers Get Damaged

May through September, since polymeric sand and sealer both need warm, dry days to set. Spring cleaning comes first if the winter left algae and washout; the sanding and sealing follow once the base has dried out, which on clay takes longer than owners expect. A patio restored in June is ready for the summer, and a walk done in September goes into winter with locked joints and sealed color.
