The other common loss is skipping the brightener on wood, which leaves the boards clean but flat and gray-toned instead of returning the color under the film.
Timing It Right
High summer is the window. Boards need consecutive dry days to come back to moisture content before any stain or sealer goes down, and June through August delivers more of those than spring does near the water. Bay-facing decks are best cleaned once the June hatch has run its course. If staining is the goal, book the wash and plan for a few dry days behind it rather than staining over damp wood.
