It dwells until the growth visibly darkens and dies, usually five to fifteen minutes depending on the day, and then everything is rinsed clean. What a Rinse Cannot Do
The common mistake is treating living growth like dirt. A pressure washer shears the visible layer, drives water and spores behind siding laps, and leaves the roots to regrow, so the wall looks clean for six weeks and green by fall. The second mistake is running the solution too strong on wood, paint or aluminum, which streaks or bleaches the finish. Dilution is matched to the surface, and the dwell time does the work that pressure was never suited for.
Timing It Right
Soft washing works any time the surface is above freezing, and the township calendar peaks in May and June when winter's growth is most visible. Fall is the second season, especially on river-corridor lots where a summer of humidity has built a heavy film. The results are easiest to judge a day or two later, once the dead growth has finished rinsing off in the rain.
